The Beginning Pops For Hood & Hood
The ‘Such A Drama’ blog refers to seven musicals that were written by Evelyn and me for the Mary Russell School in Paisley. I thought I would reflect on these musicals, as they were not distributed widely but provided much entertainment for the school and the community it served.
The Bionic Women
One of the unusual stories that I was able to share at school was that my famous mother had, has had, for most of my life, a man-made elbow. This didn’t have an impact on her writing career (other than slowing down her ability to type for a while) but it is perhaps one of the lesser-known facts about her life.
Such a Drama!
From my earliest memories, our house always had some engagement with amateur dramatics. One of my silliest memories was the four of us painting several life-size drawings of human skeletons on cardboard with luminous paint.
Building The Wall
Evelyn has always been a problem-solver and never afraid to take on new challenges. We were talking recently about the Covid-vaccination programme, and I was delighted to learn that she had received her second jab already.
From Journalist to Author
Evelyn’s career ambition was always to be an author, however she had her fair share of rejections at early ages and did not just wake up one day as a self-made author.
A change of direction
The late 2000’s saw a new direction in Evelyn’s writing, as she moved away from the historical novels which had been the main output of her writing for over twenty years. Instead, she embarked on the successful Prior’s Ford series, which had seven titles in all.
The Olive Grove
Evelyn’s main output is her historical novels, however she also ventured into other territories including plays, short stories, poetry and the popular modern-day novels centred on the village of Prior’s Ford.
A Kiss From Santa
“The People’s Friend” published “A Kiss From Santa”, a short story by Evelyn, in their 2019 Annual.
What The Hoodle Is Going On?
A great lockdown activity that Evelyn enjoyed was creating and inventing words.
Welcome back…
Welcome to the re-invigorated blog from Evelyn Hood, originally titled ‘All Things Evelyn’.
“I loved reading Charles Dickens’ books as a child, and decided at the age of eight that I wanted to be able to write stories as he did” - Evelyn Hood
