“Divided Views”
Once again Evelyn gave us her kind permission to post one of her unpublished poems here on her website. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did when we uploaded it.
Divided Views
I saw me in something
Fantastic- like mink.
He saw me well-aproned
At his kitchen sink.
I’d have liked evenings out
In an opera box;
He liked me at home
By the fire, darning socks.
I’d have liked to be taken
To see the ballet;
His idea of excitement
Was the Wednesday Play.
I’d always have imagined
A flat in the town.
He thought, something country-
Two up and two down.
I thought I would suit
Diamond rings on each hand.
Then he came and offered
A simple gold band.
So I gave up my dreaming
Well- heavens above!
Who needs all those riches
When instead they have love?
