I Never Thought It Would Be Like This
This is a play for two men and two women. When Doreen and Arthur are wrecked together on a tropical island one might expect things to turn out pleasantly romantic, Doreen being a somewhat repressed spinster and Arthur escaping from an overbearing wife. Doreen, however, is distinctly shocked when Arthur proposes building only one shelter. Unexpected complications arise when Doreen “imagines” her Mum’s presence and the latter actually appears, followed even more surprisingly by the as yet unborn Norman, their “son”. Finally Doreen and Arthur go off affectionately together to build a shelter and a boat, while Mum and Norman - now both firmly “real” - plan to help them.
